Planting For Monarchs

As the weather gets warmer, the Monarch travels from Mexico to the US searching for plants.

Make a Monarch Waystation

1 - Choose a sunny spot.  Butterflies need 6 hours of sun.

2 - Think about a spot with wind protection for butterflies.  A great choice is the sunny side of a fence or garage..  You can also accomplish this with tall or short plantings.

3 - Plant varieties of butterfly and milkweed and other nectar rich plants that will attract monarchs and other pollinators

4 - Monarchs will find your waystation and will stop for nectar and lay their eggs on the milkweed.  You will have the pleasure of watching those gorgeous black and yellow caterpillars emerge into the majestic Monarch.
