Rita is making 'moonshine'

APPLE PIE “MOONSHINE” OR “LIQUEUR” (if you want to be fancy)

Heat it up and serve with a thin apple slice on top.

I used organic juice and cider. Everclear is potent liquor and my brand is made from corn, with a proof of 151! That’s why you don’t need much of it. Everclear lasts forever in the pantry. The liqueur is delicious warm or chilled.

Ingredients

4 cups apple juice

4 cups apple cider

1/2 cup sugar

4 cinnamon sticks, 2” or so each, pounded

1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice

3/4 cup Everclear liquor

Instructions

Bring apple juice, cider, sugar, cinnamon sticks and apple pie spice to a gentle boil and cook about 5 minutes to allow cinnamon flavor to infuse. Let cool. Strain. Add Everclear and stir. Keep in refrigerator. Serve warm in mugs with cinnamon stick or apple slice.

Tip:

Recipe can be divided in half, or doubled.

ADD AUTUMN OLIVE BERRIES

I think a handful will do! High in vitamins A, C and E, The phytonutrient Lycopene is up to 17 times higher in these little fruits than in raw tomatoes. Even the seeds contain Omega 3s and Vitamin E, so go ahead and chew them up along with the berry: they are soft and easy to chew.

Autumn Olives aren’t actually an olive, or a berry at all – they are a stone fruit, like cherries and peaches.
